Actor Cuba Gooding Jr. pleaded guilty on Wednesday 2018 to forcibly touching a woman at a nightclub in New York.
The Oscar-winning “Jerry Maguire” star was arrested almost three years after he was convicted in a case that caused several delays as his lawyers sought to reduce or dismiss the allegations.
Gooding, 54, pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated manslaughter at various night spots in Manhattan in 2018 and 2019, pleading guilty to just one charge.
He told the judge that he “kissed the waitress on the lips” at the LAVO New York nightclub without consent.
There is no jail time in Gooding’s application. If he continues counseling for six months, he can withdraw the misdemeanor application and plead guilty to lesser violation of harassment.
Gooding was arrested in June 2019 after a 29-year-old female police officer pressed her breasts without her consent at the Magic Hour rooftop bar and lounge near Times Square.
A few months later, he was charged in two more cases as more women came forward to accuse him of abuse. The new allegation alleges that he pinched the buttocks of a server after making a sexually suggestive comment in downtown TAO, and in 2018 both of them inappropriately forced a woman to touch a LAVO nightclub.
Gooding had previously pleaded not guilty to six counts of misconduct and denied all charges of wrongdoing. His lawyers have argued that zealous prosecutors, obsessed with the #MeToo movement, are trying to criminalize “common gestures” or misunderstandings.
The judge ruled that if Gooding’s case went to trial, prosecutors could call two additional women to testify about their allegations that Gooding had violated them as well. The women, whose claims did not turn out to be criminal charges, were among 19 other defendants whom prosecutors wanted to call witnesses.
In addition to the criminal case, Gooding was charged in 2013 with raping a woman in New York City. After a judge issued a default ruling in July because Gooding did not respond to the case, the actor hired a lawyer and is fighting. Complaints
