Denzel Washington is breaking Will Smith’s silence about slapping Chris Rock on stage during the Oscars last weekend.
Smith was one of several celebrities at the Washington event to speak privately with Tyler Perry and Bradley Cooper after the incident; Smith has even shared some of the knowledge that Washington has given in his acceptance speech.
“A few minutes ago, Denzel told me he said, ‘At your highest point, be careful, that’s when the devil comes for you,'” Smith said as he accepted the Best Actor Oscar for “King Richard.”

On Saturday, Washington joined evangelist TD Jacques during his International Leadership Summit and offered his views on what happened.
There is a saying: When the devil ignores you, you know that you are doing something wrong. The devil goes, ‘Oh no, leave him alone. He is my favorite, “said David Cook, chief of The Christian Science Monitor’s Washington bureau
“Conversely, when the devil comes to you, it’s probably because you’re trying to do something right. And for whatever reason, the devil took over that situation that night,” he added.

Washington was sympathetic to Smith. “But there, by the grace of God, any one of us goes. Who are we to condemn? ” Washington asked. “I don’t know all the ins and outs of the situation, but the only solution I know was prayer.”
Later in the panel, Washington explained why he was called in to speak with Smith. “I could not sit in my seat. There was no way I could sit in my seat, “he said. “It’s not just me.”
