Jon Batiste got another performance before 2022 GRAMMY. The 35-year-old singer took to Instagram to share a video of himself performing on the New York City subway ahead of Sunday’s Las Vegas show.
In the clip, Batiste gathers with her friends underground for a self-proclaimed “love riot”, this time performing her 2021 track “Cry”.
After his subway performance, Batist and his friends headed to the studio for one last pre-Grammy session.
“Love Riot is like a chaotic, funny, instant musical parade. It started out as something that I would transit from one place to another, on the way to the recording studio or rehearsal or even to the market, ”he explained. “It borrows from my city New Orleans’ second-line tradition, usually starting with a few people and gathering people along the way. I love the feel of the event and the sense of community that it brings.”
Batiste is the most nominated artist at this year’s Grammy Awards He received 11 accolades, including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Best Music Video.
“I was surprised,” Battist told ET’s Kevin Frazier after learning of his nomination. “I was just jumping into the living room and people were blowing up my phone.”
“I am overwhelmed with joy and I am grateful,” he added. “I’ve been doing this for a long time, since I was a little boy, and I really like music and I love what it can do in the world. And now, I have a lot of opportunities, more than I did yesterday, to continue. “
