Mel Gibson made a virtual visit to Jesse Waters’ Fox News show on Friday, part of the actor-director’s promotional blitz in his latest management effort, “Father Stu.”
“Everyone has a boulder, man,” Gibson said, describing the film’s theme, where Mark Wahlberg plays the true story of a boxer who becomes a Catholic priest. “Something will come and knock you out at some point in your life. Now. Later. And how do you stand out from that, you know? How do you do all this cool stuff and get started? There is a purpose to all this. So it is looking for that purpose. ”
The interview was shortened when Waters asked about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars.

Waters asked Gibson, “You probably understand this better than many people with your career.” “And I was wondering, you know what, if you were to jump out of your seat and slap Chris Rock, if you were treated the same, Mel?”
Gibson raised his hand and shook his head, indicating that he had no intention of answering that loaded question.
At that moment, a female voice – probably Gibson’s preacher – cut Waters off and abruptly ended the interview.
“Um, me – thank you, Jesse. Ah, we – this is our time, “said the voice.

On the same day as Gibson’s Fox News interview, Smith announced that he had resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
“The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dearest friends and loved ones, everyone present and the worldwide audience at home,” Smith said in a statement confirming his resignation.

“I have betrayed the trust of the academy,” he added. “I have deprived other nominees and winners of the opportunity to celebrate and celebrate for their outstanding work. I’m very upset. “
