Simu Liu is celebrating a difficult, but deeply important life event.
Liu went on social media on Tuesday to acknowledge the 10-year anniversary of a significant crossroads in his personal and professional experience. The “Shang-chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” actor was fired from his accounting job a decade ago.
“Ten years ago today, I was taken to my managing partner’s office in Deloitte and told they were going to quit my job immediately,” Liu wrote on Tuesday. “A woman from HR and a security guard took me to the floor in front of the whole Open Concept office.

“It was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. No one moved, whispered cheers or even looked at me. I dealt with tears of humiliation, grabbed my things and never looked back.”
Liu’s life was shattered around him and it took seven years of reconstruction to truly move forward and rise to the top.
“Ten years ago I thought my life was over,” he said. “I wasted countless times and money my family invested in me. The school year, the genius program, tries to live up to my parents’ expectations. Everything fell apart in an instant. ”

“I spent those four years wandering around like a headless chicken, trying to figure out how to get into the industry, fight credit card debt, and get any job I could. Three more years have passed trying to enter Hollywood, sinking my precious life savings into what many call a pipe dream. Everything I’ve done in the last three years has paid off. “
Liu completed his trip down memory lane by thanking his former employees.
“Near the offices of Paul Gibbon and Deloitte Toronto; Sincerely, honestly, thank you, “Liu concluded. “I did not have the courage to do what you did for me; You ruined the life I was making for someone else, so that I could finally start making a life for myself. “
