‘SNL’: Colin Just Mocking Smith’s Oscar Ban: ‘Is It A Punishment?’

Colin Just had some thoughts about the recent announcement by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that Will Smith was banned from the Oscars for 10 years for slapping Chris Rock at this year’s event.
During the latest “Weekend Update,” Just joked about Smith’s 10-year ban from academy-approved Oscar events, including the show.

“As punishment for slapping Chris Rock, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has banned Will Smith from attending the Oscars for 10 years,” Just said.
“But is it a punishment?” He added. He can still get nominated. He can even win an award. He can even go to the after party. ”

To take the matter further, Jost commented on a photo shown on his screen, and “Weekend Update” co-anchor Michael Che looks awkward while hosting the 2018 Emmy Awards.
“Really, I think the real punishment would be for Will Smith to host next year’s Oscars,” Just said. “Because, believe me, nothing more than hosting an awards show will make you question your choice in life.”
