British actress Talisa Garcia breaks barriers at Disney as the first known open trans performer to star in one of the studio’s Lucasfilm productions.
The actress starred in the much-anticipated Disney + “Willow” series, a spin-off of the 1988 Ron Howard fantasy movie of the same name. Currently in post-production, the series will follow a princess who joins a team to join her in rescuing her twin brother. Leading star Warwick Davis will re-emerge in his title role as Willow Uffgood.

According to Deadline, Garcia will play the role of a queen and mother in the role of Tony Revolveri who is a participant in the search. Garcia’s role is no major and he can only appear in one episode in the end. However, his casting is the first time a trans actor has played a CIS character in a Disney + film or series. Deadline Also reported that Garcia Casting was met with “pride and support” on the set from his colleagues.
The Chilean-born actress is best known for her work on the BBC’s “Baptist” and “The Girlfriend Experience”.
Disney has come under fire in recent weeks for failing to respond to the controversial “Don’t Say Homosexual” bill in Florida, which bans teachers from teaching children under the age of nine about sexual orientation and gender identity. The pre-date of Garcia’s casting bill has brought a new wave of concern with on-screen presentations in Disney-backed productions.

Disney has paved the way for casting trans actors. Last year, Patty Harrison of “Raya and the Last Dragon” became the first known trans actor to voice a character in the animated Disney film. Most recently, non-binary trans performer Iris Menas starred in the Disney-owned “West Side Story” for the 20th century. The studio is reportedly looking to cast a trans actress in the upcoming Disney + series “Ironheart”.
